Dear Friends of the Hermanus Cliff Path

The Environmental Authorisation (EA) granted on 17 November 2022 remains valid.

Minister Anton Bredell, Department Environmental Affairs and Development Planning Western Cape, dismissed the appeals after reviewing all the grievances lodged by the Pooles Bay Residents Association(PBRA).

The project can move full steam ahead.

About Us

Six years ago the Hermanus Cliff Path Action Group (CPAG) approached the municipality with a simple dream: to connect the two parts of the iconic cliff path thereby avoiding the terrible detour on the narrow sidewalk of the busiest road in town. The vision is a path similar in character to the rest of the cliff path.

This community driven and -funded project will result in an infrastructure upgrade of arguably the town’s biggest tourist asset.

With the Environmental Authorisation in its final stage the dream is starting to become a reality.

The project underwrites the principles of eco-tourism, enviro-friendly commute as well as coastal public access.

The new path

No more detour

Pedestrians will be much safer, inhale fresh sea air instead of petrol fumes.

What you’ll experience

Short section at Mickey with coastal vegetation either side of path

Path along the rocks

Current footpath on pebble beach in front of Mollergren

Informal path next to pool

Get involved

Walk the informal footpath during low tide – your footsteps will lay the foundation for the cliff path to follow. (Take note this is done at own risk and own responsibility.)

This is a community funded project; if you feel passionate and would like to contribute:
